Lake Joondalup MTB Park

A long-term NBCC vision becoming reality — dedicated mountain bike trails for Perth's northern suburbs.

A long-term dream for mountain biking in Perth's north

The Lake Joondalup / Yalbunullup MTB Park project has been a long-term goal driven by NBCC's mountain biking leadership, volunteers and supporters. The club has worked with councils, government, businesses and authorities over many years to keep the project moving forward.

Local leadership

The project has been strongly championed by NBCC MTB Director Mark Papadopoff and the club's mountain biking community.

Government engagement

NBCC has worked with local government, Parks and Wildlife, DBCA and other stakeholders to progress planning and approvals.

Community benefit

The goal has always been to deliver a dedicated mountain bike facility for riders in Perth's northern suburbs.

Years of planning, assessment and advocacy

2017 master planning

NBCC worked with DEPAW, WestCycle and local government around the Perth & Peel Mountain Bike Master Plan and a northern Perth XCO trail concept.

2018 grant application

The club prepared a City of Joondalup Sports Development Grant submission to fund site studies and concept planning.

2019 planning works

Contractors were awarded for dieback assessment and mountain bike trail concept planning, supported by the City of Joondalup grant.

Protecting the park while building trails

The project included dieback assessment and concept planning before construction could proceed.

  • Dieback assessment completed as part of the planning pathway
  • Concept planning progressed with trail specialists
  • NBCC worked with Parks and Wildlife representatives during early project stages
  • The aim was to create up to 7km of cross-country trail for community benefit

November 2023 — Construction tender released

NBCC reported a major step forward: the tender for construction of the trails was released, marking significant progress after years of advocacy.
